The Butterfly

I made an open vegetarian sandwich on some toasted-olive-chilli-bread; with: a mixed peppers, tomato and feta filling, served with a side salad and finished off with some drizzled sauce from the filling I prepared.

If like me, you enjoy the odd rasher of bacon, feel free to top your sandwich off with some grilled bacon. I soaked my bacon in white wine and grilled it in the oven for approx 12 minutes.
Drizzle lightly with balsamic vinegar.

BON APPETIT!

'Ke Thabile go Rasa'

Thabile Rasa is a legendary musician from Cape Town, South Africa.
Not only is she beautiful and talented, but she too is multilingual (Setswana, isiZulu, Cantanese, English and French, to name a few).
She is one of those humble starts that shines, not too brightly, in amogst the shadows of others. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS LADY, she will kill your flow, one time! She has recently composed a mix that simply blows me away.
I feel like a proud father!

When I first listended to the mix, I did not want it to end!

Watch this space for more on the brilliance of Thabile
(Ha ha, I think we are on a first-name basis now...).
The real question we need to ask ourselves is...
KE MANG THABILE RASA? (WHO IS THABILE RASA?)

Gros bisous ma soeur! Nous allons de l'avant!

This song is one of those that has been made even greater by its music video.
Helena Christiansen is the lead and beautiful is the word of the day!
I always used to dream of being her, in this video. Playing on the beach, with a boy.
This song goes well with today's weather, which is grey.

Youth Communication!

I sometimes think about one day having children. I feel apprehensive about being completely successful, in allowing for the actualisation of their ability to communicate their thoughts. I think that this the most valuable form of human being, because without the expression of self, where would be be today?

As I grow, I realise more each day, how important it is to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds. I do not consider myself old (not really) but I have shifted into the 'next' stage of life. It is daunting to be in this limbo phase where every decision I make, need be for the benefit of my greater well-being. When I think of myself as a teenager, I remember thinking about my future, up until this point of my life, but seldom further beyond.

I reminisce on moments of my life, daily, and I cannot express to you, how blessed I feel to have grown up with three older sisters, who nurtured me and stimulated me constantly. Each of them did so in their own manner and some might have say that I was made aware of 'too much', 'too quickly'. I feel the exact opposite to those people. I do not know if I would be as conscious of my personal decision-making, if it were not for the influx of knowledge that I was bombarded with as a child.
I saw a lot, I heard a lot; growing up. The most hilarious part of it all is that the people who I saw, doing the things that they were doing, have no idea that I have mental proof of their 'mis'behaviour.

Children are the visual stimulants of society. The amount of knowledge that they take in upon observation, is unimaginable to the 'adult mind'. What happens to them though? They are placed in a militant environment; whereby their abilities are streamlined and they are conditioned to the 'normal' behavioural patterns of the general society. I always watch parents with their children. Not in a creepy way, just because children are naturally attractive to the naked eye. I see how they are reprimanded, fed, spoken to and how they respond to their parents. The most interesting quality of human beings, is that we have evolved drastically over the years, for the most part. We are so liberated and we feel that we have the ability to conquer the Universe. We have marched, sang and cried our eyes out for this life that we live. A vital part of our mentality that has not quite changed though, is that of  the ideas of parenting, youth development and youth communication.

I feel that we are still too coy in our approach to youth stimulation. People feed off energy. Infants have only their energy and visibility to feed off of. Take the example of swearing in front of your children. If one were to move along swiftly after dropping the f-bomb at Sunday Lunch, instead of everyone acting as if they had just been stabbed in the kidney with a knife, do you really think that children would pick up that certain words have negative connotations as rapidly-often as they do?

Yes, there are the factors such as the 'repetition phase' and this phase and the next and the next, but at some stage, one will need to explain the essence of certain words and their contexts. Who came up with the idea of phases anyway? Do we not progress at our own development rate? We need to eradicate the amount of pressure that we place on the progression of others, in order to release them from the constraints of failure. We need to poison the minds of children not with what they cannot do, rather with what they should do. Positivity is key and you will be surprised at how differently one responds to the positive form of reprimanding. Make them understand why certain values are instilled in people. Make them understand why they are not to give up on exploration of self and selves alike. We need to connect the youth to the 'rest of the world'. PRONTO (now).

Words are words and it is only the way in which you choose your words, that you will gain a better understanding of yourself and the people around you. We need to explore the diversity of words with our children. We need to embrace the influx of knowledge and we can start by solidifying our communicative efforts as a whole.

People need not be afraid for the younger generation to make mistakes. Our societies have transformed to those led by elitist groups, to those that follow a hierarchical system where age is the usurper. Why is it that we cannot allow others to fail, once we have succeeded. I am in no way encouraging debaucherous-parenting, but I am encouraging that we discuss the different options in lifestyle choices, with the youth itself, in order for it to exercise its 'power of appointment' in choosing life's way.
We need to embrace the power of the word and stay in tune with those to follow, because they are the propellers of this society and without them, we are simply ashes-to-ashes, dust-to-dust.

 Just a thought!

P.S. In the game of love, we can only be victorious in our efforts!

His Queen of Hearts.

Suppressed by the love we wish to express.
The time is now
To go forth or bow.
In another lifetime
Our soul's entertwined.
In the time that is now, we are truly undefined.

I stand here, bare, telling you to make me yours.
I sit amongst the masses.
I remain bored.
I refuse to whore.
'Working together we can do more'
No other can compare.
Your touch. Your smell. Your kiss. Your gentle hair.

What is the cause
Of this yearning to be yours?

Into me, you enter
United we rock.
Inspriring my soul. I choose you, of all my stock.
Without our reign, there can be no rules.
So finely erased by time spent together..
So finely determined by our time apart.

Let me be
Forever Thine.
For it is forever, that I want you as mine.
To see your face. Our love to embrace.
To close our eyes; await our surprise.

In love
Eternally we shall grow.
For our growing love, we do not allow for show.

Best Love.

ANDY... CH CH CH!

I have always had a keen interest in Art. Today is dedicated to one of my favourite Artists of all time:
 Mr Andy Warhol.

The late, Andy Warhol, was born on August 6th 1928.
He transgressed from his works of commercial illustration, to the become a world renowned Pop artist. His visionary was deemed controversial in some forums, but the effect he had in the industry created a positive mental shift in the human mind.
His creations inspired a more invigorating way of life, enhancing the popularity of lifestyle brands such as Coca Cola and 'Marilyn Monroe' (I guess she was a lifestyle in her own right, at the end of the day?)

His revolutionary prints and paradoxical portraits added some spice to the Art World as he was in tune with conceptualising a popular subject in creating mass-produced, over sized portraits. He took already existing brands and portrayed them in a way that allowed for the audience to determine their 'cool' factor, in terms of the brands that they associate with their lives or those that they identify in the pop-era as more favourable for consumption. From people to canned beans, Mr Warhol's choice of colourful, captivating, eye-popping technique remains untouchable. He took the opportunity of moving into the 'pop-era' to play to the human emotion of acceptance.

In nature, his work appears simple, as his choice in subject matter is not as 'in depth' as one would expect to find in an artist of his time. His hyperbolic style and exaggerated sizes made for a lot of talk amongst the American public. The 50's was a time where brand association and human connection were symbiotic in nature. Simply put, if you were not in the know... You were unknown. His prints are beautiful, to say the least and aimed at infiltrating the vision of his viewers.

' He worked in a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, film, and music. He founded Interview Magazine and was the author of numerous books, including The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Popism: The Warhol Sixties. Andy Warhol is also notable as a gay man who lived openly as such before the gay liberation movement. His studio, The Factory, was a famous gathering place that brought together distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Bohemian street people, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy patrons.'

Here are some of his portraits:

Edie Sedgwick (Andy Warhol's muse)... If you haven't seen Factory Girl, go and rent it... TONIGHT!

Monsieur Warhol.

One of his more famous works is that of the typical 'Campbells Canned Beans'. He took the most common household product (OBVIOSO IN AMERICA) and turned it into a phenomenon.

The original bottle

Silk screening is a beautiful technique that I wish to explore in the near future.
This is titled 'Eight Elvises' and was his highest sale of $100 000 000 (SO MANY ZEROS)

silk-screen also silk·screen (n.)

1. A stencil method of printmaking in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface. Also called screen-printing, silk-screen process.
2. A print made by this method.

I can see why this was controversial...

'Chelsea Girls is a 1966 experimental underground film directed by Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey. The film was Warhol's first major commercial success after a long line of avant-garde art films (both feature length and short). It was shot at the Hotel Chelsea and other locations in New York City, and follows the lives of several of the young women who live there, and stars many of Warhol's superstars. It is presented in a split screen, accompanied by alternating soundtracks attached to each scene and an alternation between black-and-white and color photography. The original cut runs at just over three hours long.'

Andy Warhol. Gold Marilyn Monroe. 1962

She would have been nothing if it weren't for this man. Marilyn Monroe's sex status increased 10-fold after Warhol started producing images of the icon... Over-populating the public with her most famous face.

Classic print of Mrs Jackie O. Kennedy. It is surprising to see such an image as the lady was against presenting herself as a public icon. She refused all interviews and did not give up her disbelief in fame from the time she stepped onto the scene, to the time she passed on.

'15 minutes of fame'... A phrase coined by Andy Warhol.... Clearly THE MAN MEANT BUSINESS!

This man was a true icon and his work will continue to influence our lives from then on forth.

Bisous tous les jours,
Queen Ipel of the *Universe*/GlassTableGirl x

P.S. Sex is more exciting on the screen and between the pages, than between the sheets.

L'amour de ma vie!

There is one true love of my life. In my world of voyage, that is. That is the love that I share with my favourite city in South Africa, CAPE TOWN!

The 021 (Area code), The Tizzle... As in Cape Tizzle. Cape Teezy. The Mother City!

I first went to Cape Town on a road trip in 1994 (I think). I went with my nursery school friend Katie Cohen (I wonder where she is) and her parents. IT WAS EPIC INDEED! We went straight to Fish Hoek, where the waters are warm and the sun shines bright :)

I have been travelling to and fro this city for the past eighteen years of my life and every time I am in the Cape, I experience something new. It is a refreshing peace of mind to be so close to the ocean. One would think that the cold, Atlantic would scare one away, but not me... I have braved the storms many a time and it was always enthralling to say the least. When I consider how many times I have travelled to Cape Town, it makes me think that I could have saved all that money and bought myself that McLaren SLR that I so long for...

Well I make sure to go to the Mother of all cities at least twice a year. There was a point when I lived there and before that, I would travel there every season.

My most recent trip was amazing to say the least and I would like to share some imagery of my walk in the forest with my Wife, Zhao Yang (Her name is actually Yang Zhao - @yangisung, but in China, we are addressed by our last names, first) and a friend and EPIC photographer, Max Mogale (@maxmogale).

My eyes saw something new and my heart was completely at peace. The joy I experienced in the woods was beyond most I have, ever before.

Dinner FOR-FOUR

Last night, three of my faves were over at my house for dinner. After a much anticipated surprise, Muse, Thabangalang, Masingi and I enjoyed a late dinner indoors a mi casa!

I made some chicken, potatoes and a mixed veggie gravy!

Before you start, Pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

I started off by:

Boiling the chicken in some white wine and water.

Slowly, I added some chicken spice, medium curry powder, whole bay leaves and origanum to my pan.

I allowed the mixture to boil at a lower heat for about 12 minutes.

Don't forget to turn your chicken continuously throughout this process, to allow for the absorption of all the juices and flavours combined.

I then wedged some potatoes and placed them in a baking dish. I squeezed four lemons over the potatoes and added to my dish, 1/4 cup of milk and two tablespoons of huile d'olive (Olive Oil)

I sprinkled these with some mixed herbs and freshly ground black pepper and placed them in the oven to bake for approx.17 minutes.

Continue to check on the potatoes and turn as often as necessary.

To make the vegetable gravy:

I started by placing my onions (Julienne), peppers (Julienne), mushrooms (Sliced) and carrots ( 2 x grated) in a pot and added some garlic, butter and 1 cup of water to allow for a stewed-broth to boil for 10 minutes.

As you will notice, your water will at some point evaporate. Make sure to stew your vegetables, in a closed pot for the first ten minutes.

To add flavour, I seasoned these vegetables with some mixed masala spice, cumin, mixed herbs and half a teaspoon of salt.

I added 2 tablespoons of ketchup to the pot and an additional cup of water.

Allow for you mixture to simmer at a low heat and watch your gravy thicken before your eyes.

This mixture is already thick. To thin it out slightly (for that saucy feel) continue to add cups of water, until you are satisfied with your gravy.

I placed some wedged tomato slices in a baking dish and sprinkled with three tablespoons of brown sugar (Apparently, sugar brings out the bursting flavours of the tomato). I finished it off with three table spoons of balsamic vinegar and placed them in the oven to roast for 15 minutes.

Once the tomatoes are done, you should mix them into your vegetable gravy and stir thoroughly.

I added some crumbed feta to my gravy :)

Once you are satisfied with your potatoes, mix in your chicken and place in the oven to roast. Keep an eye on your dish and let it roast until golden brown.

I forgot to take a proper image of the meal fresh from the kitchen last night, but here is an after shot that I brought to work for lunch today!

Bom Proveito amigas!

Beijhos!
