Tuesday 11 December 2012

My friend Ato Aful shared this poem with us today and I just felt it to be so special that it has made its way to my blog. Quite fitting for the way that I have been feeling as the year draws to a close. I have had many revelations of love, life and general spiritual enlightenment this year and I am happy that I have made it through what I would say is an unexpectedly difficult year. I love the people around me and the energy that they bring into my life. We should never forget to stand alone in our beings, for we die alone at the end of the day and that is a reality that most of us are unwilling to face, daily. I choose perseverance... It is the substance of my soul.

IF...

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
...

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master,
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

NAMASTE!

Yoga of Awareness with Dr. Melissa West - Full Free Class.

I really enjoy the art of Yoga, but I find that I do not always have the time to attend classes during the day. These videos are great, because they are practical and thorough, it's like having a personal instructor, come to your home. FOR FREE! Well, almost.

One of the best qualities of Yoga, in my opinion is that it really does have an effect on the way in which we choose to see our bodies. It is a practise that I wish never to give up and it really does allow for one to reach a higher frequency of living. Simple, mundane tasks like walking up the stairs or sitting in a chair, become more focused. The all-round well-being of this form of exercise is untouchable and I am so happy to have fallen in love with Dr Melissa, who is a genius instructor, with a great sense of spirit.

I hope that you will enjoy these as much as I have.

Namaste, every day!

Best,

Salmon Fishing In The Yemen!

This past weekend was amazing. Besides the time I spent bonding , I was blessed to discover that there is a fish market six kilometres from my home :) CAN YOU SAY HELL YEAH! I was on my way home, on Saturday night, after spending some time with my Chouchou, Christelle Veringa. I remembered that I had forgotten to buy toilet paper and dish washing liquid, on my earlier conquest of grocery shopping. We all know that if we are privileged enough to consume such paper, not having any can lead to multiple problems within a residence.

As I went dizzily up and down every aisle (This tends to happen in the supermarket... I could spend hours there), I happened to come across the tiniest fish market I had ever seen. My eyes saw dollar bills and I immediately calculated how much fish I could buy in one go. WINNING! I ended up buying two brave pieces of Sole (YUM) and two very healthy and fresh pieces of Norwegian Salmon (YUM). I was so lucky to find such upon its delivery, said the fishmonger, who was about to close his stall for the day. 'Who is all of this fish for', he asked me and of course I responded cordially and said 'Myself'. I love seafood with all my heart and I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all to join me in celebrating the execution of what I believe to have been a great dinner.

Tonight, I chose to serve my sister, Rori Motuba - Film and Acting extraordinaire:

Norwegian Salmon stacked on a bed of fresh rocket and full-moon roasted potatoes; finished off with some deep fried shrooms (mushrooms), peppers and an onion-red wine cream.

I started with the prepping my work this afternoon by dicing my Salmon and placing it in a bowl to sit in:

1t of brandy
2T of cream
Parsley
Black Pepper
Three portions of freshly squeezed Lemon Juice and
Some Olive Oil

I placed this in the fridge to chillar (chill) for a few minutes short of three hours.

I started off my meal by thinly slicing some potatoes in full-moon shapes and placing them in a baking dish to roast in the oven. I seasoned them with some mixed herbs, rosemary, black pepper and a pinch of salt.

DESOLE, j'ai oublie de prendre la foto de cette (SORRY, I forgot to take a photo of this)

I then coated my mushrooms in some egg white and sauteed them in some soy sauce. Once they were almost raw, I placed the shrooms in some lightly curried powder mixed with Southern Coating.

NEXT STEP... DEEP FRY BAYBAY!

You should deep fry your mushrooms for no longer than one minute and forty-five seconds ;)

Whilst I awaited my shrooms, I decided to saute some peppers in my original pan, seasoning them with some rosemary.

By this stage of my process, my potatoes were almost crispy, crunch and ready to come out :)

I chose to use the same fryer throughout every step of the way, without rinsing, because i feel that there is no better way to sew together, the extraordinary flavours of such a meal, than to cook it using the same aromas throughout.

I created a creamy red wine and onion sauce to compliment my dish, based of a purple haze gravy that my sister once made me, using: red wine, cream and lemon juice. I decided to saute some onions into this sauce to balance out the crunchiness of my gravy with the zesty texture of its taste.

TIME FOR SOME ACTION!

I placed my salmon and marinade inside my pan and lightly sauteed it for about two-three minutes on each side.

I added some capers to my pan which I placed in the oven to allow for the moisture to infiltrate the souls of the sea.

Once I had plated the base of my dish, I felt ready to add the final touch in adding the Norwegian salmon to the mix et voila, c'est bien comme ca :)

SUN IS SHINING!

He stands tall in the shadows of their darkest days.
He does not let  the fear scare her away.
He fights for his woman to keep her thoughts in stream.
She embodies the souls of his deepest dreams

Distant she may be, she is still by his side
She considers his light as she wanders through her fight
Of life
She doubts in her mind, yet she continues forth
In hopes that he will reaffirm her worth

Alone they are strong, together: steel
Their hearts are in the air to steal.
By another or each other, they may never know.
Their love is determined by the way in which they grow

True it may be, that she has found the one, truer it seems she prefers the sun
The one who is constant and present throughout
Her mind, body, heart, soul and doubt.

Will any other ever compare,
To the one she feels is always there?
SHINE IN YOUR BEAUTY, oh glorious light
Show her the joys and never the fright.

His kisses so soft, gently they flow
If he loves her? Does he love her? Why is this so?
Life sits in her soul and escapes through her mind,
So she keeps on dreaming and will keep him in hind.

Her primary thought is to be in love,
First she considers the light of the sun above.
In experiencing its energy she is wholly fulfilled, by the light and love that she is yet to build.

Bisous tous les jours,

READ!

I believe that the system of education went on a negative tangent, when they changed the names of the classes from Standards to Grades. When I consider this in light of the subconscious of our nation, I come to the conclusion that scholars and students alike are no longer being challenged to maintain a certain standard of their success on a collective basis. I believe that we are now living in a society whereby students are being Graded against the pressures of individual success. Why do we not strive to provide for united form of educating ourselves, in a way in which we can propel each other to maintain a standard of collective success. The educators do not teach us about the losses we may suffer or the heartache that we may feel in this world and that is one of the most fundamental characteristics of education. Instead, we are submissive to a system of no direction and conditioned to believe that we are the educational robots that must conform to a certain mind-set and the 'norms' of society. There is no personal touch, when it comes to education. In my eyes, the personal touch is what pushes us to exist above our conformists. If we as a nation can approach life in a more personal manner, where everybody feels the need to engage in the human connection, then maybe it will allow for the concurrency of our soul's existence.

NO BRA WITH THAT BLOUSE,
THAT'S
SO UNNECESSARY!

Today I would like to give thanks to one of my favourite soul-sisters. Blossom Mayer. HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR THE 1ST :) She is one of the main reasons that I keep on going in life and one of the biggest inspirations known to mankind. I recently went to Greece, to meet this childhood friend of 19 years! I had not seen her in two years and it is thanks to her that I had the most amazing, life-changing experience to date. Blossom is one of those people who assure you that everything is a-okay and she keeps my soul thriving. In the words of our third Muskateer, Jamie du. Plooy, taken from a speech that they wrote for me 'We will be friends forever, in this life and the next... We will always be the three muskateers'.

Thanks my Veegie.. YOU ROCK MY DANCING SOCKS!
These were taken on the island of Paros, Greece.

One of the traditional Greek foods is called a Souvlaki. This is the most delicious wrap, I have ever tasted and when you visit the country, do better for yourself and have one almost everyday, as we did. They are cheap, tasty and oh so addictive. One thing though, carry some breath mints with you, whenever you decide to have one, because the Tzatziki, Red onion combo is quite something.

Some people freak out at the idea of having to smooch their partners after eating one of these, I say, He loves me... He loves me not!

The options that are available in Gyro land are chicken and pork. As you may have seen in a regular wrap-serving cafe, the chicken and pork (gyros) are slow roasted on a spit. The pita bread comes toasted and is filled with fries, tzatziki, red onion, sliced tomato and some lettuce. This delectable dish is finished off by adding either chicken or pork gyros. Due to the fact that we like to live it up a little, we opted for a mixed option and were gladly granted such.
Once you have a souvlaki, you will never want to eat any other kind of wrap again.

Paros served us the best souvlakis ever. We tried many a time to find the right make and we were lucky enough to come across Giorgos (as is the name of most Greek men), who even gave us a free glass of wine to wash it down with... When money is tight!

I hope that today brings about a new cycle in your energy's light.

3) THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA
4) THE LANGUAGE
5) THE GODS

You should all go there, when you have the chance and if you have already been, then I suggest that you go again!

THIS IS A GREAT SONG!
It makes my soul feel alive and kicking!

Just remember that today is what you should live for and tomorrow is reserved for the ways in which you can uplift yesterday's form of living!

Real men, cook for their wives too!

Salmon is just amazing!

One day, four lovely ladies were sitting at bar called Fatimas in Tofo, Mocambique.
Across the room, were a group of handsome men who took the opportunity to come over and introduce themselves. One of the men, they found, was a fellow South African, who they (the girls) were lucky enough to spend the following week with. His name, Brett. He is a blonde hair, blue eyed man who stole the heart of one of these girls. Luckily for them (her especially), he is still in their lives and is one of the best salad-making, cup-cake serving, fun-providing souls ever.

Thanks Brett Kotze for this delicious meal.

I WANT YOU

'I know you're a little nervous/I know you really want this...'

Wow... I heard this song for the first time last year. I was staying at a house in Cape Town with a couple of friends. Oh did we dance in the bedroom, in the kitchen, in the other bedroom! We danced and sang like it was the last time we would ever hear music Well... This is my recollection of that moment, I may be slightly hyperbolic in the description of that day. Stephanie O'Conner has introduced me to a lot of Erykah Badu songs that I cannot believe I have never heard. I would love to go and see her live with Stephie... It would be the best ever! I just love this song! No matter what mood I'm in, it uplifts my soul! What an artist. Cheers to Ms. Badoula :)

HAPPINESS!

I have decided that I am most at peace when I am in the following three spaces:

1) In the kitchen
2) In bed
3) By the seaside.

I am so excited that my blog is turning one in a couple of weeks. I feel like I have nurtured a baby that has yet to grow. I am in awe of your constant support and thank every source of energy for my ability to live.
C'est vraiment le joie de vivre!

This meal is dedicated to one of the most amazing couples I know. Tsholo and Moagi Bodibe.
When I tried to start my in-house catering business, these two were my first clients. I remember Moagi being a bit sceptical, because Tsholo and I were running so late. I had to make a three course meal in one hour! I definitely freaked out, big time... Especially when the question came: 'Ipes, will you be done in time?'. I was not certain that I would, but what else could I do, but get in that kitchen and cook my ass off! Oh did I sweat a little.

I prepared a dinner for eight guests:

Starter:

Avocado, sweetcorn and sunflower seed salad, tossed with some fresh strawberries.

Main Course:
Prawn Curry served with Basmati rice

Please do me a favour. At some point in your life, choose to eat seafood only. I am giving myself 10 years to accomplish this form of living, because Lord knows I love me some chicken.

I sauteed these prawns in olive oil. Right now, I am winging it when I say that I used: medium curry powder, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, rosemary and a hint of black pepper.

'I've never seen you look so happy' - Mmaphuthi Morule
She is spot on... Cooking turns me on... To a wavelength of complete bliss!

'Every boy and every girl, spice up your life!'

I sauteed some onions and mushrooms in a separate pot from the prawns. This was done in the same ingredients as the prawns, but I also added some mixed herbs and extra ginger to the vegetables. I then added some peeled tomatoes and let them cook until they were soft and ripe. I mashed the tomatoes in the pot, to create a sauce for my curry. I then added some fresh, fat free cream (2 - 3 cups) and let it simmer at a low heat for 12 minutes.

I added my prawns to the sauce, once it was ready and mixed it all together. I chose to let it sit for a further 3 minutes at a low heat, but this is not a must.

Oh... I think I may have added a pinch of brown sugar to my sauce.

Dessert:
Malva pudding with a remixed hot-custard dressing

I am not at all equipped in the dessert part of my cheffing story. They say that practise makes perf. I have a lot of practising to do herewith.
I had some left over strawberries, some chocolate/vanilla ice cream and some custard.

What the frick can one do with these ingredients, that will make them appear less boring?
(personal opinion)
So I took the risk of slowly mixing everything together on a heated plate, until I got it to taste like something wonderful. I added some lemon juice (THE SAVIOUR) and concentrated on creating a sweet, zesty sauce that would compliment the sticky malva pudding.

By the looks of it, I also added some sliced banana and fresh cream to the pudding sauce.
WOW, I'm such a chancer... Ha!

This is not the best look, but trust me... All's well...

... Ends well?
I hope that the meal was enjoyable for all.
I will be offering my services to those of you who want to warm up with each other this winter.
The going rate is R100/pp excl. groceries... I think that's fair... Tell me you'll have a three course meal at a restaurant for the same price and I'll throw in a free sandwich for the kids!

Happy Days!

Demons

Demons within my soul
Relentless in its haunting,
Never subsiding, always fevered.
Sanity far off, life in turmoil,
Light unknown, depth unsurpassed.
\Wants never met, needs partial
Fear a fever in my life, I break out in perspiration
Looking for that guiding hand, straining my vision.
Far away I see a beacon, the demon shackles me
I lose footing, fall far below, depression has set in.
\I am falling who will save me, break my chains
Unleash the demon in my soul, my freedom is dependant.
No one can help, no one can destroy, only I
Only I,
Need the strength. Need the will, I need Me.

LUCKY FISH!

I HEART LENNY KRAVITZ even more so, today!

For those who could not view the official music video on my blog yesterday, I am so sincere when I say SORRY NE?

Firstly, I would like to know why this girl was serenaded in a bathroom.
Secondly, I am so jealous.

This man is a proper artist, to be able to reproduce his song in this acoustic version. He is super talented and I would love to see one of his shows. OR have him sing to me in the bathroom of his changing room too. I'm easy-going like that ;)

Thank you for the music!

Word of the day

'I have been doing so much back and forth talking about life, love, humanity, spirituality, relations and society.  I've just watched spirit molecule; which got me thinking so much more. I'm getting so curious about life and its fulfilment capacity. There is so much out there to learn and experience and I am feeling the need to do exactly that! Always! And without procrastination in my life; which sometimes makes me feel as if I am sleep-walking through life and not actively living it! I even wrote myself notes and I plan on being more proactive about experiencing valuable, life changing moments! I need to do this now! I can't keep threatening to live my life... I just gotta live it!
We fly together friend. I wouldn't be a good friend if I didn't share with you. This is the whole reason that we come into contact with other beings. To share, grow and unify!'

Fall On Your Knees MOFO

One woman who I would love to see perform is Mrs Swizzy! I have no words for the talent that is Alicia Keys. In my eyes, she is one of the few artists who has remained true to the art of making music as she has not allowed commercial ideas to influence her growth as a singer/songwriter. One song that she produced that always has me blown away is 'Impossible' by Christina Aguilera - another great singer.

This is my favourite Christmas carol ever. Well done to whomever wrote it. This song reminds me of my dear Afrikaans teacher, Meneer Steyn. Nobody (in my life) touches Pieter Steyn when it comes to singing. The only joy of having to perform in our school Christmas carol events, was hearing him close the show with this number. Not only is he a beautiful singer, but I need to thank this man for guiding me through my teens and always being there for me no matter what. Teachers sometimes lose sight of nurturing students and take the stance of trying to control the student's mindset. This is not the way forward if we wish to develop our children's beings. Humane Souls are hard to come by and he is truly one of the greatest that I have encountered. If there is one person who I would like to extend my happiness to, today, it is definitely Meneer.
Dankie vir alles wat jy vir my gedoen het... Met die grootse liewe!
(Thank you for everything that you have done for me... With the greatest love!)

This song reminds me of so many good times of my life, namely when I would not stop singing it to my God-sister-soul-mate Muptee and her amazing sister Karabo Morule, when we were on holiday in Langebaan a few years ago. If you have never been to Langebaan, please do yourself a favour and go there. It is situated in none other than, the WESTERN CAPE. There is a beautiful restaurant on the beach where, R200  buys you some freshly caught and prepared seafood.
ALL YOU CAN EAT! YOU CAN ALSO BRING YOUR OWN BOOZE! NEED I SAY MORE...
It is like Christmas everyday at Strandloper.

Here are some snaps of the resto :)

Can you say DELISH! If God or someone of great power or influential control over my life said that I can only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would definitely be seafood!

NON SAIS (DON'T KNOW)

Do you ever feel that you are trapped in a head space, whereby you are at a slight stand still between one level of your life and another? I believe that this (head space) is one of slight anxiety between moving into the next stream of consciousness and the stagnancy of your 'limited' capabilities. I call them limited because I think that we are so used to the ideas that we visualise every day, that they have somewhat lost their essence; due to the fact that we allow ourselves to live in a state of confirmation that is dictated by the confirmation of others. We need to acknowledge the expansion of our minds and our ability to conduct the intricacies of such minds in a way that allows our visualisation to be the point of focus; as opposed to it being the influence of a generalised finding of any essence within the 'simplistic' aspects of life.

Take for example the routine of having to always prepare for the worst, (I dislike it when people say this to me, now that I truly think about it), as being something which is completely absent from our thought process. I believe that if we were to strive towards the excellence of intelligent living, then we would not necessarily express this lack of vitality to solidify our position in society and societies alike. Everyone wants to make it. Everybody wants to do better for the nature of their close surrounding and for those closely connected to them. I think we often doubt the power of mind control and that of the mind itself. We are bound by these conformities which i think in a way deter us from outward thinking. Not everyone fits this description, but I mention this within the realm of personal experience and human interaction which we encounter on a daily basis.

In the beginning, it was a fighting war against self to do better. Our predecessors were of the fighting spirit that, then, was determined by those who make it and those who do not. That is in my view, the ultimate sacrifice. The world is still a place which is to improve itself ten-fold. I am so happy to be a part of an experience, that allows me to determine and identify self first, but in an unselfish way. One saying which I love from the Bible, is 'Seek and ye shall find...Ask and ye shall receive'. This speaks such truth to me because I think that we all tend to carry a sense of pride, some more than others, that shuts us off slightly from portraying the most common of human qualities. We sometimes disregard the reciprocal nature of words and the actions that they describe. By divine law and in the law of our everyday lives, people have certain rights and duties towards each other and it is our responsibility to respect each other in this light.

A relationship is defined as the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected; which comes hard to exercise by the individual. The maintenance of that connectivity, which is often damaged by error or material mistake, is difficult to uphold. I find that a large number of people are looking out for self, in a selfish way. I know a lot of us believe in karma, but what is karma in its pure definition? I think that is up to the individual to determine. Sometimes when people speak about karma, it sounds like a commercial for an advert, selling you 'Hollywood scripts' worth of ways in which to conduct yourself like a boomerang. I don't know. I have not quite settled myself with the ideas and philosophies of karma. The people of Hindu and Buddhist descent describe karma as the sum of a person's actions, in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their destiny or fate, following as effect from cause.

I am aware of the many energies around me, as I carry my energy around the world. I want to be able to attract the most beautiful of energies to help me build a strength which is exponentially greater. Greater than you, greater than me. As I deduce the idea of karma, I begin to realise that I am  moving towards being in full alignment with its definition. I believe that there is something about the absorption of ideas and movements that allows for one to reach ones true form of becoming. It is interesting to see how people react to different circumstances and how souls alike somehow find each other. At the end of the day, that is what we live for right? To find the one who fits within the parameters of our evaluations.

I think that in order tho find that one, one needs to experience the idea of being the one. We are so concerned with the chase, that we often forget how important it is to be one with self. To have control of your existence is one of the many gifts that God, Allah, all of our Parents, the higher beings who contribute towards the sustenance of life, have handed to us. We should rather illuminate from within and chase the success of proud internalisation. These words, proud internalisation, engrave a sense of gratitude in my being. This, coupled with mind control are some of the most simply granted, yet difficulty maintained, human qualities. We often forget how it feels to be still and how to be at peace. Clarity of the soul is as important as any substitution of dietary cleansers and supplements. Why would you choose to supplement something, over which you have the power to naturally control?

There are so many questions to be answered in this regard and as I grow spiritually, mentally and emotionally I am happy with the fact that I have made myself aware of these queries, from listening and engaging gregariously with people who have come into my life. Some of them have been at random and have had the ability to inspire me from the stroke of interaction. At the end of the day we, as a people, are responsible for the outcome of our community. Ask yourself, before you draw parallel thought with the thought of others, how will I benefit from here? This is not in a competitive manner, rather a genuine one. That is the ultimate enrichment of success. The ability to reach a level of ingenuity that continuously surpasses your conditioned levels of experiencing alternative thought.

I would like you to reach out to the sunlight. Feel its heat and embrace the energy that it feeds to your soul. Seriously, next time you are in the sun, close your eyes, look up towards the sun and take the slowest and deepest breath you are able to in that moment. The sensation of the energy that infiltrates every focal point of your system is but amazing. You should learn to appreciate the idea of living.
In the end... It is only you.

Dare Me

I finally found the original version of this song. WOW! After a strenuous sift through 'Stupidisco' and a whole lot of other remixes, my friends at YouTube were kind enough to help me out!
The Pointer Sisters are the one for fun!
I've had this jam stuck in my head for the past two days, but I am not complaining at all!

FOR THOSE IN DISBELIEF

Last week I mentioned that Jamie Oliver has started a campaign called 'Food Revolution Day'.
I really enjoyed this day and I appreciate all who were involved in this event: Rogsie, Tshols, Botshel... You girls rock my guitar!

For more info on the event go to www.foodrevolution.com.
There is no better feeling than that of happiness. To be able to provide such is an even greater achievement. I am the gift that keeps on giving.

I think this could be my favourite Michael Jackson song... Tough choice, but it definitely falls within my top three, alongside another all time favourite of mine, 'Stranger in Moscow'.

The Muse Partie Deux

This meal is dedicated to one of my favourite people in the world. Ms. Dionne Mankazana. There is nobody who I enjoy making food with more than this chick. I love playing with her in the kitchen and in life in general. Thanks for being one of my most enlightening influences my muse x

STEP 1

I started off with my bread. Remember I taught you how to make the rosemary bread by: Spreading some olive oil on the bread and sprinkling some rosemary across the face. Bake this in the oven for approximately 8 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.

STEP 2

Saute some bacon (shredded of fat), onions, mushrooms and tomato in some olive oil, water, fresh garlic and fresh ginger. Add some medium curry powder and some dried parsley. I took the liberty of adding some freshly squeezed lemon juice into my pan.

STEP 3

Add one and a half cups of fresh cream to your pan and allow for this to simmer for approximately 12 minutes. DO NOT LET THIS DRY OUT OR BURN!...

...As you can see... I almost did exactly that... Wheeeew!

TIME TO LAY YOUR MEAL :)

Spread some mayo or any other bread spread of your choice onto each slice of toasted rosemary. I chose to add some chilli to my sandwich, but I know some people are just not that strong.
I also added some sliced mozzarella to my version because without cheese, we would be unhappy all round :)
